Theia: An Accessible Medication Information App for the Visually Impaired
Theia is an innovative iPhone application developed by sanofi-aventis groupe, designed to assist individuals with visual impairments in accessing medication information. This free app aims to overcome the challenges faced by blind or visually impaired individuals when it comes to identifying medication boxes, checking expiration dates, and accessing medication leaflets.
With Theia, visually impaired users can now easily scan a medication box and obtain all the information from the leaflet. The information is displayed on the screen and simultaneously read aloud by a text-to-speech engine. This includes the medication name, dosage, expiration date, lot number, and a summary of the patient information sheet.
Accessible to all, Theia covers a wide range of over 13,000 medications available in the French market. It is a valuable tool for individuals who are visually impaired, have difficulty reading small texts, or have loved ones with visual impairments.
Please note that the information provided by Theia is not sourced from laboratory information documents, but from a recognized medication reference database. Additionally, this information is not intended to replace medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
